Practice your accuracy

Remember that Spare ball in your bowling bag? Well go grab it. The next thing I want you to try is to strike with your spare ball. In todays game we are given far too much room for error with the high tech reactive bowling balls. So the next time you practice shoot a whole game with JUST your spare ball. This will tell you how accurate or inaccurate you really are. It will also force you to possess a better release which will improve your shots when you go back to a regular strike ball. You will also leave more spares than normal giving you more spare practice.

Practice different angles

Huh? Now what I want you to do is bowl an entire game without moving your feet. Huh? For instance...stand on the 15 board for every single shot throughout your game regardless of what you leave. All of your spares and all of your strike shots. Next game do the same thing but do it from the 10 board or the 20 board. This will teach you to look at the lane from different angles.

New Year.....New Results???

"I am going to lose weight", "I am going to join the gym", "I am going to quit smoking", "I am going to work on my bowling game". The most important part of a New years resolution IS THE RESOLUTION! So we need to set some bowling goals for 2010. But most importantly we have to put in a plan of attack to achieve those goals. EVERY bowler wants to get better. Even Walter Ray Williams jr, and he is the greatest of all time. But in order to improve we have to committ to making some positive changes in our games for the upcoming calendar year. We will only get "New Results" if we produce a "New game plan" which means get a lesson or two and start being the bowler you want to be. The results will only come if you"re willing to work! So lets go to work in 2010!

Practice at a new Bowling Center

The next time you practice, go to a center where you normally do not bowl league in. Why? Because it is important to be able bowl from different parts of the lane and it will make you better at adjusting to changing lane conditions when you DO bowl in your weekly league session.

Practice with your spare ball (part 2)

The spare ball doesn't hook as much and doesn't hit as hard as your regular strike (reactive ball) ball. So what will happen is it will force you to make better shots and will leave you more spares which will make your spare game even stronger. Take the first shot and pick off the 10 pin and take your second shot and clean up the mess that is left. This will also get you more bang for your buck since you"ll be throwing 2 shots every frame. When you do go back to your reactive ball you'll be amazed on how much better you will throw it!

So remember change will only happen if you open up your mind and allow it to happen. So make 2010 a season to remember for your bowling.

Thank you to all of the people who have been emailing in real questions and ideas for upcoming articles. We always appreciate any and all input as we are always aspiring to help and educate bowlers so they can knock down more pins. As always you may email me at: daveleverage@yahoo.com.
