Lessons with Leverage student of the Month

First of all I would like to congratulate my student of the month.... Steve Stowe. What a month Steve had. Steve and I have been working together for a couple of months now and Steve won his first Strike Force tournament. I say first because he wasn't finished. That same week he shot his first 300 game and the following weekend he won his second Strike Force Title. Now THAT is a good 8 or 9 days of bowling right there. Just goes to show you that with a desire to improve your game and a willingness to put some time in to work on your game...Good things CAN and WILL happen to you! CONGRATS STEVE...

My experience at Nationals this year

Me and my teammates have already been to Nationals this year. If you or your team would like some insight as to what I learned this year by bowling at Nationals and how you should play the lanes or what ball to use, give me a call or stop in the shop and I'll be happy to tell you all about it. In addition through the Month of May, AMF Mc Ray lanes will be putting out the Nationals shot every Friday afternoon. We have recently changed the shot to be as close as possible to the shot you will be bowling on in Reno. Since I have already bowled on it and with my experience on the Professional Bowlers Tour, we have reformulated the shot to emulate the National Bowling Stadium.

What is the proper weight bowling ball for you throw?

Over the past 6 weeks of giving bowling lessons I have come across 3 or 4 different people who have needed to change the weight of their bowling ball. Having the proper weight ball for you is crucial to your success or failure as a bowler. Have you ever wondered if you in fact have the right weight ball for your game? The answer for many bowlers is NO. Many have a ball that is way too heavy for them and others have a ball which is too light for them. I have one woman who recently went from a 14# ball down to a 12# ball and she has so much more control of the ball and now has the wrist strength to improve her fingertip release with more revolutions and more accuracy which has raised her average recently.

I have another student in his late 80"s who had a 15# ball!!!! Wow. Needeless to say we tested a 10, 12, and a 14# ball and settled on a 12 pounder and it has given them more control as well as increased ball speed.

On the other hand the other night I was giving a woman a lesson and she thought she needed a 10 pound ball. We started experimenting with her as well and as it turns out she is actually not only in a 14 pound ball, she is also able to throw a finger tip grip and in a 1 hour lesson we had her hooking the ball across the lane. You should have seen her face light up when she hooked a ball from the first arrow into the pocket and struck. She couldn't even believe she did it!!!

Now on the other hand another student recently went from a 12 pound ball to a 14 pound ball and her results weren't quite as good initially because she hasn't quite developed the wrist strength to hold and rotate the ball like she had with the 12 pound ball.

The moral of the story is if you are not sure if you have the right ball weight for you...Make an appointment to see me. You might be quite surprised with your results!!!

Are you experiencing any pain while bowling?

Well if you are, there is probably something wrong with your delivery, approach, release or the drilling of your ball. Bowling should not hurt when you are doing it. It should be fun and it should be relatiuvely pain free. There are also many devices, braces and other things to help alleviate the pain you might be experiencing while bowling.

Summer time is the time for change

Since most of the winter leagues are winding down and first place has been decided it is time for change.... If you want to make some changes in your bowling game and become a better bowler, SUMMER is the BEST time to do it! Why Summer? Because the league season is shorter in the summer and many people take the summer off from leagues. Because of these factors it is the best time to make some household changes so that when you return in August or September your teammates won't even recognize you and you can wow them with your improvements to your game. There's nothing better than raising your average 15-20 pins and having everybody ask you next season....What did you do?

Thank you to all of the people who have been emailing in real questions and ideas for upcoming articles. We always appreciate any and all input as we are always aspiring to help and educate bowlers so they can knock down more pins. As always you may email me at: daveleverage@yahoo.com.
