The 12 Days of Christmas with Leverage
As the Holiday Season gets into full swing now that Thanksgiving has passed and Christmas and New Years Holidays are right around the corner, we are all gearing up for a great 2010. And if you follow the movies in Hollywood we only have a couple of years remaining so we need to make them count!
All kidding aside...I have come up with my "12 days of Coaching with Leverage". Twelve little tips and hints to make you a better bowler.
1. Stance: Make sure your knees are slightly bent and that your bowling ball is directly in front of your shoulder. Too many people hold the ball in front of their stomach or in front of their face which doesnt allow your armswing to clear the hips without putting a loop in your swing. Push the ball away and let gravity do its thing!
2. Timing: If you are missing your target to the left consistently...SLOW DOWN... When your feet are moving too fast, your brain is uncomfortable and tries to over correct your timing at the last minute and more often than not over corrects and you miss your target left.
3. Finish Position: Left foot perpindicular to your target, bend you knee and get both your slide foot on the ground as well as your trailing leg. Follow through and "pose" at the foul line!
4. Release: Less is more. Let the ball roll off of your hand. In the 80"s we "hit the ball" and gave it "fingers".... It's not the 80"s anymore and the best bowlers in the world don't do that anymore.
5. Mental game: Like the movie "Hook" with Robin Williams..... "Think happy thoughts". If you want good things to happen on the lanes you have to tell yourself good things are going to happen.
6. Knee bend: At the foul line bend your knee enough so that you cannot see your your toe. If you can see your toe you are not bending it enough.
7. Drift: Always line up with your slide foot. Take notice if you slide on the same board as you started. Do you drift to the right, to the left? Do you drift the same amount every shot or does it vary alot?
8. Adjujstment: THE LANES CHANGE. You cannot stand in the same spot all night. If you miss right, move your feet to the right. If you miss to the left, move your feet to the left.
9. Spare system: go to www.BowlingwithLeverage.com and print off the spare system. DON'T GUESS. Use the system. If you make 2 more spares per night your average will go up about 7 pins overnight!
10. Goals: Set some goals for yourself. See if you can reach them!
11. Visualization: If you vizualize success, you will be successful. If you visualize failure you will most certainly fail. See what you want to be as a bowler.
12. Have fun: This is why we all started bowling in the first place. Enjoy the moment!
Thank you to all of the people who have been emailing in real questions and ideas for upcoming articles. We always appreciate any and all input as we are always aspiring to help and educate bowlers so they can knock down more pins. As always you may email me at: daveleverage@yahoo.com.
